Family Session at Mukilteo Lighthouse

There’s something magical about photographing families at Mukilteo Lighthouse Park. With Puget Sound stretching out behind you, the lighthouse standing tall, and driftwood scattered along the beach, it’s the perfect mix of iconic Pacific Northwest scenery and timeless charm.

This sweet family session was filled with dancing, snuggles, and plenty of chasing little ones. The lighthouse made the perfect backdrop, while the sound of laughter and the sea filled the air.

As a Everett Family and Newborn photographer my
favorite parts of a session are always the connection. Those are the moments that are real, the moments that truly fee like you. Family lifestyle photography means I want you to play with your kids,  kiss your spouse and let the kids run a muck! This is how we get images you can feel. Images that represent your precious little family. No cheesy smile. No awkward posing just you enjoying this beautiful life you've built!
If you are looking for a  family, Maternity or Newborn photographer, I love helping families feel comfortable and connected in front of the camera. Sessions at Mukilteo are perfect for families who want a mix of playful candids and beautiful, frame-worthy portraits. Whether it’s your first time having professional photos taken or you’re updating your walls as your kids grow, family photos at Mukilteo Lighthouse are always a favorite.

Important reasons why you should document your cesarean section-    Everett, Washington

Picture
Documenting your cesarean and why it matters:
When most people picture birth photography they often imagine a dimly lit room, a mother pushing, and that first slippery moment of skin-to-skin. But for many, birth looks different. It looks like bright lights, surgical gowns, and a slew of nurses, and doctors- a room full of a medical personal making the way for you to meet your baby. It looks like cesarean birth, and it is just as worthy of being remembered!
Picture
Cesarean births are births too!
There is somehow this weird misconception that cesarean births are somehow "less than" Let me just say if you have ever been witness to a c-section you definitely would not say that! The emotional and physical toll it takes is unreal! There is real power behind it. You must completely submit and surrender in order for your baby to be born. into this world. That is not in any way less than, that my friend is bad ass!

Your body brought life into this world. You still experienced the anticipation, the intensity, and the flood of emotions that come over you when you finally see your baby for the first time. The love that washes over you, doesn't that deserve to be documented?
You're in the moment-but you miss a lot
During a c-section you're flat on the table. Sometimes your arms are strapped down. There's a curtain between you and the birth itself. You may not see your baby's first moments- That's why having a birth photographer can be so incredibly important. You don't want to miss those all those first moments you may not get to see. The way they re lifted into the world, their first cry, or the look on your partner's face when they first laid eyes on your baby for the first time. Birth photography captures all the moments you want to remember.

Healing through seeing
For some their cesarean is planned for others it's unexpected and may feel overwhelming, confusing or traumatic. Having photos allows you to process the experience- to see the beauty in it, even if your birth didn't go as you expected. Birth photography can help you shift the perspective of from 'what went wrong" to "look what I did"!

The Little details fade
Just like with any birth details fade! Ugh how I wish they didn't! But inevitably it happens, you forget the moments you were one hundred percent you wouldn't. The way you felt when first laid eyes on your baby, how your partner squeezed your hand to let you know it would be okay. Choosing to document your cesarean birth honors your journey and creates a time capsule for you to always go back to. So you don't have to worry about forgetting the details in haze of medication, exhaustion, and trying to heal.

Your story deserves to be remembered
No matter how your baby comes into this world it is beautiful and powerful, birth Photography gives you a tangible way to document it all. As a Birth photographer in Everett, Lake Stevens, Seattle and surrounding areas I'm here to document it all for you!

Katie

Why Your Newborn Session Matters More Than You Think Everett, Washington

Newborn days are strange.
They’re slow and fast at the same time.
You’re up at 3 a.m., staring at this tiny human who feels both brand new and like they’ve always been here. You have so much loved in your body feel as if you could burst!

The truth is — you won’t remember every detail.
Not the way their hair stuck up in the back.
Not the size of their fingers compared to yours.
Not the way they curled into your chest, like that’s where they’d been all along.
That’s why a newborn photography session in Everett WA + surrounding areas. isn’t just “nice to have.” It’s a way to freeze time before it slips through your fingers.

In my sessions, there’s no stiff posing or props they wouldn’t naturally be in.
It’s you, your baby, and the connection that’s already there — the way you hold them, look at them, breathe them in.

Whether I’m photographing in your home in Everett, or in a nearby Snohomish or King County location, or in the hospital during those first days, my goal is the same: to document your baby exactly as they are — so you can remember exactly how it felt.

Because when you look back at these photos years from now, you won’t just see what they looked like.
You’ll feel it all over again.

XO, Katie

Her Beauty Isn’t in the Pose or the Dress (A short reflection on what makes maternity photography powerful) Lake Stevens, Washington

Her Beauty Isn’t in the Pose or the Dress

It’s easy to think maternity photos are about the perfect dress, the dreamy pose, the glow everyone talks about.

But that’s not what I see.

Her beauty isn’t in the pose or the dress. It’s in the way she carries this season — bold, unfiltered, and fully herself.

It’s in the quiet strength behind her eyes. The way she holds the weight of it all — the growing baby, the shifting identity, the unknowns — and still stands tall.

Picture

Maternity isn’t just about expecting a baby. It’s about becoming someone new. And that transformation? That’s where the real beauty lives.

So no — we’re not here to fake anything. No stiff poses, no forced smiles. Just you, as you are.
Raw. Real. Beautiful.

XO, Katie

Yes, You Can Have Lifestyle Photography Session in a Studio! (How we keep it raw, emotional, and real—even without being at home) Lake Stevens, WA.

Lake Stevens, WA lifestyle birth, maternity and newborn photographer explains how you can get raw, emotional lifestyle images even in a studio. Perfect for maternity, newborn, and motherhood sessions in the Seattle area.

Think lifestyle photography can only happen at home? Think again. Here’s how I create warm, honest, emotive images in studio settings—with zero props and zero pressure in the greater Seattle area.

Let’s clear something up: “Lifestyle” isn’t about location.

You’ve probably seen the word lifestyle thrown around with in-home sessions, cozy beds, beautiful nurseries, and golden-hour fields—and while I love those too, lifestyle photography is about one thing:

Emotion!

Here’s the truth: lifestyle photography isn’t about your house. It’s about your story—and that can be told anywhere. Not the couch you’re sitting on. Not the nursery wall. Not the background at all.
It’s about what’s happening between you and your babies—and that can happen anywhere.

Studio doesn’t mean stiff. It means simple.

When you step into my studio space, it’s intentionally minimal. No distractions. No forced poses. Just soft light, neutral tones, and room to breathe.
It gives us freedom to focus fully on what really matters: The way your child melts into you. The way you laugh without thinking. The way you look at each other when you forget the camera is there.
Just like this moment right here 👇

Picture

You don’t need props. You don’t need perfect weather. You just need space to connect—and that’s what studios are made for!

Picture

It's okay if you don't want an in-home session!

Maybe you don’t want to clean or worry about the house
Maybe you want a space that feels more aesthetic

Maybe you’re in between moves.
Maybe your space doesn’t get much natural light.

Studio sessions give you the ease and beauty of lifestyle photography—without the stress of prepping your home.

You just show up. I’ll handle the rest!

It’s like a home away from home.

Studios aren’t sterile or cold. You’ll find soft textures, natural tones, and cozy spots to settle into—like a bed, a couch, or a comfy chair. These aren’t just for looks—they’re meant for snuggling your newborn, feeding your baby, or just catching your breath. Often minimal to really focus on the best part YOUR story!

It feels like home, without the pressure of having to tidy up. And the best part? The lighting is already perfect. So you get all the comfort and all the beauty, without the stress.

What you’ll walk away with:

Honest, heart-full images of you and your babies Zero-pressure direction that helps you relax A peaceful, minimalist setting that keeps the focus on your connection Proof that lifestyle isn’t about where—it’s about who

Fresh 48 Session- What it is and why it's worth it-  Everett Washington Newborn Photographer

Do you remember the days when a photographer was at the hospital to take your baby's first photo before going home? (Unless of course you delivered on a weekend that is then you were sol) lol! Well in most hospitals these days those little "sessions" have mostly become obsolete. Thus “Fresh 48” sessions were born (pun intended)
These sessions have essentially become the new and VERY improved "hospital photo". Fresh 48 sessions take place within the first 48 hours after a baby is born, while you and your baby is still in the hospital or birthing center. You pick the photographer with the artistic style that speaks to you. Keeping your photographer informed as labor and delivery approaches. Together you will choose a time that works best.

As a motherhood photographer fresh 48's are one of my favorite sessions! The beauty of fresh 48 sessions is that they capture all the newness of your fresh little babe you don't want to forget. As well as the love + joy you have for this incredible new little being. These sessions are raw & natural with minimal posing, capturing details of your baby such as their tiny fingers, toes, mouth ears, etc. Making them a beautiful way to remember all the little details of your Newborn.
XO,
Katie

As a maternity photographer I urge you, please do not skip out on a maternity session! SERIOUSLY I promise you will be so thankful you didn't miss this opportunity! Often times mamas will skip out on a maternity session for various reasons. Some have a hard time with how their body looks or feels in it's ever changing shape, others may feel like it is frivolous. However a maternity session is a beautiful way to capture the joy and anticipation of your baby. To forever hold on to this once in a lifetime moment where you and your baby are one.

Three reasons to book the session:

1. Celebrate the Journey: Pregnancy is such a special and unique time in life, there really nothing else like it. All the changes your body goes through can be really hard, growing your baby can feel overwhelming emotionally and physically but but wow it is is incredible!

2. Memories for the Future: It is such a gift to your child to see. When you show them pictures of you pregnant with them they will feel all the love you have for them. It can be hard to believe but someday you will miss your big ol' round belly! You will miss the foot to your rib, hiccups as you are trying to fall asleep and the summersaults after you've eaten something surgery. When you capture this time it is also for your feature self.

3. Bonding Experience: These moments can be a bonding moment for the parents to be, a time to slow down allowing you to focus on the connection between you and your partner. It also shows the immense love you have with you and your  baby.

BONUS: Boosts Confidence: Many expectant mothers find maternity shoots empowering, as they celebrate their changing bodies and the incredible beauty of pregnancy.

Book the shoot, you won't regret it!

My water broke! Savoring the last hours of pregnancy -A Fun Account Of A Maternity Session  Camano Island, Washington

Kimberly and I had already done an amazing Maternity session, but when she messaged me her vision of another session on the beach & in the water with a beautiful handcrafted fern headpiece she would make herself I was ecstatic! We set the date but unfortunately due to sickness we had to reschedule, which a week later put us that much closer to her due date. We chatted via IG the morning of around 10 am talking about the ever changing weather in the pnw and a plan to move forward even in the rain. At 4:24 I received another message, one that shocked me! I couldn't  believe what I read, "ummmm..... soooo my husband is freaking out because he thinks my water just broke" I couldn't believe what I read. Birth truly is so unpredictable. My initial response was excitement, soon she would be meeting her baby. Then I thought oh darn, what a bummer we won't  have the chance to bring her idea to life. We chatted a bit more and after taking inventory of the situation and talking to her doctor's office with no other symptoms of labor and knowing we had time Kimberly Decided to go for it! Knowing this would be the last chance to make her vision come to life! I was amazed at her tenacity. We moved up the session time, I grabbed my gear & raced out the door. About 40 minutes later we were on the beach creating her vision. Now she can always look back on these images knowing she has a crazy story behind it she can share and I am so thankful to be apart of it.

Capturing the Magic: An in home lifestyle newborn session guide-  Lynnwood Washington

7/29/2024

MOTHER AND FATHER HOLDING THEIR BABY snuggling on their bed in lynnwood Washington
Welcoming a newborn into your family is one of life’s most precious moments, and capturing these early days can be an incredible way to preserve memories. An in-home lifestyle newborn session offers a relaxed and personal approach to documenting your baby’s first days, weeks and even months. Highlighting the intimate and candid moments that make this time so special.

Why Choose an In-Home Session?

An in-home lifestyle session focuses on capturing your family in your natural environment. Unlike posed sessions, these photos highlight the real, unfiltered beauty of everyday life with your newborn. The comfort of your home provides a familiar and stress-free backdrop, allowing your baby and family to be themselves.
Preparing for Your Session

1. Scheduling
The ideal time for a newborn session is within the first two weeks after birth. During this period, babies are generally sleepier and more amenable to being gently posed, which makes for more peaceful and serene photos. However life gets away from us and capturing your baby at any age is wonderful! Don't feel like you can't if your baby is a little older.

2. Light and Space
Natural light is key to beautiful photography. Plan the session during the time of day when your home gets the best natural light. Rooms with large windows, like the nursery, master bedroom, and living room, typically work well. Send your Photographer images of your home to have them help you narrow it down.

3. Simplify the Setting
Select a few key areas in your home and tidy them up, removing any unnecessary clutter. This helps to keep the focus on your family and the baby, without distractions in the background.
The Session: What to Expect

1. Capturing Natural Interactions
The beauty of a lifestyle session is in its authenticity. Expect the photographer to capture moments like cuddling, feeding, and playing with your newborn. These genuine interactions often make for the most heartfelt and memorable images.

2. Detail Shots
Tiny fingers and toes, the curve of a cheek, or a yawn—all these little details are worth remembering. Close-up shots of your newborn’s features will be a cherished part of your photo collection. As a newborn Photographer these details are so of my favorite images.

3. Including Siblings and Pets
If you have older children or pets, involving them in the session can add another layer of depth and emotion to the photos. These interactions showcase the family dynamics and the love surrounding your newest addition.

Tips for a Smooth Session

1. Stay Relaxed & Trust me!
Your comfort will set the tone for the session. Trust your photographer and enjoy the experience. The more relaxed you are, the more natural and beautiful the photos will be. Trust me, this is my job! No need to worry I got you!

2. Be Patient
Newborns are unpredictable, and that’s okay. Allow for feeding breaks, diaper changes, and snuggles as needed. A good photographer will work around these needs and capture beautiful moments in between. feeding can be so beautiful whether bottle or breast  with your permission I  love capturing this intimate time between you and your baby.

3. Personal Touches
Incorporate personal items like a favorite blanket, a family heirloom, or a special toy. These items can add sentimental value to your photos and make them uniquely yours.

4. Style Advice
Outfits are one of the biggest challenges for families, always ask your Photographer for advice after all you trust them! Some Photographers even have a client closet, it's worth asking. Think timeless, neutral fabrics Photograph amazingly and emphasize details without distraction. I love when clients ask me! Let's figure it out together.
In conclusion in home sessions are the perfect way to capture this beautiful time in your life without stress or travel. They provide a session that is uniquely you and your family with no fuss. Book yours today!
